Dillon County is a county in the state of South Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Dillon .

The county is located in northeast South Carolina, borders North Carolina and has an area of 1,053 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Robeson Counties and Columbus Counties in North Carolina, Horry Counties , Marion Counties , Florence Counties , and Marlboro Counties .
history
The county was formed on February 15, 1910. The name goes back to the dealer JW Dillon , thanks to whose efforts a train station was built, around which the town of Dillon emerged.

As of the 2000 census , Dillon County had 30,722 people in 11,199 households and 8,063 families. The population density was 29 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 50.39 percent white, 45.35 percent African American, 2.21 percent Native American, 0.34 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.99 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.70 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.75 percent of the population.
Of the 11,199 households, 34.6 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 44.8 percent were married couples living together, 22.3 percent were single mothers, 28.0 percent were non-families, 25.1 percent were single households, and 9.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.24 people.
29.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old. 9.5 percent between 18 and 24, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 87.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 81.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 26,630 , and the median income for a family is $ 32,690. Males had a median income of $ 26,908 versus $ 18,007 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,272. 19.4 percent of families and 24.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
