Robeson County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Lumberton , named after its location on the Lumber River .

The county is located in the central southeast of North Carolina, borders South Carolina in the southwest and has an area of 2,463 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Cumberland County , Bladen County , Columbus County , Scotland County, and Hoke County .
Robeson County is divided into 29 townships : Alfordsville, Back Swamp, Britts, Burnt Swamp, East Howellsville, Fairmont, Gaddy, Lumber Bridge, Lumberton, Maxton, Orrum, Parkton, Pembroke, Philadelphus, Raft Swamp, Red Springs, Rennert, Rowland, Saddletree, Shannon, Smiths, Smyrna, St. Pauls, Sterlings, Thompson, Union, West Howellsville, Whitehouse and Wishart.
There is next to the City following Lumberton 14 cities ( Towns ): Fairmont, Lumber Bridge, Marietta, Maxton, McDonald, Orrum, Parkton, Pembroke , Proctorville, Raynham, Red Springs, Rennert, Rowland and St. Paul and the six census-designated places Barker Ten Mile, Elrod, Prospect, Raemon, Rex and Shannon, as well as the three unicorporated communities Bloomington, Five Forks and Red Banks.
history
Robeson County was formed in 1786 from parts of Bladen County. It was named after Thomas Robeson , a colonel in the American Revolutionary War .
A total of 24 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 15, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Robeson County had 123,339 people in 43,677 households and 32,015 families. The population density was 50 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 32.80 percent white, 25.11 percent African American, 38.02 percent Native American (mostly Lumbee ), 0.33 percent Asian, 0.06 percent and 2.26 percent of residents from the Pacific island area Percent from other ethnic groups; 1.41 percent were descended from two or more races. 4.86 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 43,677 households, 37.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 46.6 percent of them were married couples living together, 20.6 percent were single mothers and 26.7 percent were non-families. 22.7 percent were single households and 8.3 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.20 people.
29.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 10.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 10.0 percent were 86 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For all females there were 94.7 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 91.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 28,202, and the median income for a family is $ 32,514. Males had a median income of $ 26,646 versus $ 20,599 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,224. 22.8 percent of the population and 19.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. 30.0 percent of them are children and young people under 18 years of age and 25.3 percent are 65 years of age or older.
