Hoke County is a county in the US state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Raeford , named after its two founders MacRae and Williford .

The county is located just south of the geographic center of North Carolina, about 25 miles from South Carolina and has an area of 1016 km², of which 3 km² is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Moore County , Cumberland County , Robeson County, and Scotland County .
Hoke County is divided into eight townships : Allendale, Antioch, Blue Springs, Fort Bragg Military Reservation, McLauchlin, Raeford, Quewhiffle, and Stonewall.
history
Hoke County was formed in 1911 from parts of Cumberland County and Robeson County. It was named after Robert Hoke , a major general in the Confederate in the Civil War .
Five buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 3, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Hoke County had 33,646 people in 11,373 households and 8,745 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 44.53 percent white, 37.64 percent African American, 11.45 percent Native American, 0.83 percent Asian, 0.15 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.27 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.13 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.18 percent of the population.
Of the 11,373 households, 41.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.7 percent of these were married couples living together, 18.2 percent were single mothers and 23.1 percent were non-families. 19.0 percent were single households and 5.8 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.22 people.
29.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 10.7 percent between 18 and 24 years old, 34.1 percent between 25 and 44 years old, 17.6 percent between 45 and 64, and 7.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years. For all females there were 102.0 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 101.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,230, and the median income for a family is $ 36,110. Males had a median income of $ 27,925 versus women of $ 21,184. The per capita income was $ 13,635. 17.7 percent of the population and 14.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. 22.4 percent of them are children and young people under 18 years of age and 22.0 percent are 65 years of age or older.
