Person County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Roxboro , named after the town of Roxburgh in Scotland .

The county is located in northern North Carolina, bordering Virginia, and has an area of 1047 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Granville County , Durham County , Orange County , Caswell County, and Halifax County in Virginia.
Person County is divided into nine townships : Allensville, Bushy Fork, Cunningham, Flat River, Holloway, Mount Tirzah, Olive Hill, Roxboro, and Woodsdale.
history
Person County was formed from parts of Caswell County in 1791. It was named after Thomas Person , a general in the American Revolutionary War .
Twelve buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 13, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Person County had 35,623 people in 14,085 households and 10,113 families. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.79 percent white, 28.21 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.37 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.86 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.09 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 14,085 households, 31.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.8 percent of these were married couples living together, 13.8 percent were single mothers and 28.2 percent were non-families. 24.2 percent were single households and 10.1 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.95 people.
24.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64, and 13.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For all females there were 93.2 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 90.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 37,159 US dollars and the median income for a family was 44,598 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,970 versus $ 22,804 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,709. 12.0 percent of the population and 9.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. 14.9 percent of them are children and adolescents under 18 years and 17.3 percent are 65 years or older.
