Person County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Roxboro , named after the town of Roxburgh in Scotland .

The county is located in northern North Carolina, bordering Virginia, and has an area of ​​1047 square kilometers, of which 31 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Granville County , Durham County , Orange County , Caswell County, and Halifax County in Virginia.

Person County is divided into nine townships : Allensville, Bushy Fork, Cunningham, Flat River, Holloway, Mount Tirzah, Olive Hill, Roxboro, and Woodsdale.

history

Person County was formed from parts of Caswell County in 1791. It was named after Thomas Person , a general in the American Revolutionary War .

Twelve buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 13, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Person County had 35,623 people in 14,085 households and 10,113 families. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.79 percent white, 28.21 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.37 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.86 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.09 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
