Perquimans County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Hertford , which was named after the English city of Hertford .

The county is located in northeast North Carolina, about 30 km to the north from Virginia and has an area of ​​852 square kilometers, of which 212 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Pasquotank County , Chowan County, and Gates County .

Perquimans County was formed in 1672. It was named after an Indian tribe.

Perquimans County's population was 11,368 as of the 2000 census . 120 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 4,645 households and 3,376 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 70.82 percent white, 27.99 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.21 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.13 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.64 percent were descended from two or more races.
