Iredell County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The administrative headquarters ( the county seat ) is Statesville .

The county is located in west-central North Carolina and has an area of 1,546 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Yadkin County , Davie County , Rowan County , Cabarrus County , Mecklenburg County , Lincoln County , Catawba County , Alexander County, and Wilkes County .
Iredell County is divided into 16 townships : Barringer, Bethany, Chambersburg, Concord, Coddle Creek, Cool Springs, Davidson, Eagle Mills, Fallstown, New Hope, Olin, Sharpesburg, Shiloh, Statesville, Turnersburg, and Union Grove.

Iredell County was formed on November 3, 1788 from parts of Rowan County. It was named after James Iredell , the attorney general of North Carolina during the American Revolutionary War .
A total of 47 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 3, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Iredell County had 122,660 people in 47,360 households and 34,667 families. The population density was 82 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 82.17 percent white, 13.67 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 1.27 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.68 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.94 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.41 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 47,360 households, 33.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.8 percent of these were married couples living together, 11.3 percent were single mothers and 26.8 percent were non-families. 22.7 percent were single households and 8.4 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.00 people.
25.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.3 percent between 45 and 64, and 12.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For all females there were 96.1 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 93.1 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 41,920, and the median income for a family is $ 49,078. Males had a median income of $ 34,590 versus $ 24,031 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,148. 8.2 percent of the population and 6.2 percent of families are below the poverty line. 10.1 percent of them are children and young people under 18 years of age and 9.8 percent are 65 years of age or older.
