Warren County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Warrenton .
geography
The county is located in northeast North Carolina, borders Virginia to the north and has an area of 1,149 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Northampton Counties , Halifax Counties , Franklin Counties , and Vance Counties in North Carolina, and Mecklenburg Counties and Brunswick Counties in Virginia.
In the north, the county has two large reservoirs. While only a few bays extend from the John H. Kerr Reservoir to the northwest corner of Warren County, a large part of Lake Gaston is on county territory.
Warren County is divided into 12 townships : Fishing Creek, Fork, Hawtree, Judkins, Nutbush, River, Roanoke, Sandy Creek, Shocco, Sixpound, Smith Creek, and Warrenton.
history
Warren County was formed from the defunct Bute County in 1779. It was named, like the district capital Warrenton, after Joseph Warren from Massachusetts , an officer who died in the Battle of Bunker Hill .
A total of 25 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 18, 2018).

Warren County's population was 19,972 as of the 2000 census . Of these, 853 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 7,708 households and 5,449 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 38.90 percent white, 54.49 percent African American, 4.79 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.79 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.88 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.59 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,708 households, 28.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 49.2 percent of these were married couples living together, 17.3 percent were single mothers and 29.3 percent were non-families. 26.2 percent were single households and 12.2 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
23.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.0 percent were between 18 and 24 years old, 26.3 percent between 25 and 44 years old, 24.8 percent between 45 and 64, and 17.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For all females there were 96.6 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 95.0 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,351 and that of a family was $ 33,602. Males had a median income of $ 26,928 versus $ 20,787 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,716. 19.4 percent of the population and 15.7 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 24.9 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 20.8 percent of those aged 65 and over.
