Franklin County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The administrative seat ( County Seat ) is Louisburg , which after Louis XVI. who was named King of France .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of North Carolina, is about 25 miles to the north from Virginia and has an area of ​​1,281 square kilometers, of which 7 square kilometers are water. Franklin County was formed in 1779 from parts of what was formerly Bute County. It was named after the politician Benjamin Franklin .

As of the 2000 census , Franklin County had 47,260 people in 17,843 households and 12,882 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer.
