Pamlico County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Bayboro , named after its location on the Bay River .

The county is located in eastern North Carolina, is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the offshore peninsulas and has an area of 1,467 square kilometers, of which 594 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Beaufort County , Hyde County , Carteret County, and Craven County .
history
Pamlico County was formed in 1872 from parts of Beaufort County. It was named after an Indian tribe.
One of the county's buildings is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 11, 2018), the China Grove plantation .

As of the 2000 census , Pamlico County had 12,934 people in 5,178 households and 3,717 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.17 percent white, 24.57 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.38 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.59 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.74 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.32 percent of the population.
Of the 5,178 households, 25.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.6 percent of these were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers and 28.2 percent were non-families. 25% were single households and 12.1% had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.81 people.
21.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24 years old, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 28 percent between 45 and 64, and 18.8 percent were 65 years old or older . The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 99.8 men.
The median income for a household in the city was US $ 34,084, and the median income for a family was US $ 41,659. Men had a median income of US $ 31,806 versus US $ 21,344 for women. The per capita income was US $ 18,005. 15.3 percent of the population and 11.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. 24.2 percent of them were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.4 percent were 65 years of age or older.
