Halifax County is a county in the US state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Halifax .

The county is located in northeast North Carolina, borders Virginia with the northernmost corner and has an area of ​​1894 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Northampton County , Bertie County , Martin County , Edgecombe County , Nash County, and Warren County .

Halifax County is divided into 12 townships : Brinkleyville, Butterwood, Conoconnara, Enfield, Faucett, Halifax, Littleton, Palmyra, Roanoke Rapids, Roseneath, Scotland Neck and Weldon.

history

Halifax County was formed on January 1, 1759 from parts of Edgecombe County. Like the district capital Halifax, it was named after George Montagu-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax .
