Currituck County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Currituck .

The county is located in the extreme northeast of North Carolina, borders Virginia to the north and has an area of ​​1,361 square kilometers, of which 684 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Dare County and Camden Counties .

history

Currituck County was formed in 1668. Like the district capital, Currituck, it was named after a tribe of the Algonquin Indians. The translation of the name is "wild geese".

Currituck County had a population of 18,190 as of the 2000 census . 163 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 6,902 households and 5,204 families. The population density was 27 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.41 percent white, 7.25 percent African American, 0.46 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.03 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.50 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.97 percent are descended from two or more races.
