Brunswick County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Bolivia .

The county is located in the extreme southeast of North Carolina, borders the Atlantic Ocean , in the northwest on South Carolina and has an area of 2,720 square kilometers, of which 506 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Pender County , New Hanover County, and Columbus County .

Brunswick County is divided into six townships : Lockwoods Folly, Northwest, Shallotte, Smithville, Town Creek, and Waccamaw.

history

Brunswick County was formed on March 9, 1764 from parts of Bladen County and New Hanover County. It was named after George I , King of Great Britain and Ireland since 1714, born in Hanover as Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg.

Oak Island Light (2007) is one of 15 entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

A total of 15 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 23, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Brunswick County's population was 73,143. 724 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 30,438 households and 22,037 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 82.30 percent white, 14.38 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.68 percent of the population.

Of the 30,438 households, 25.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.1 percent of these were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers and 27.6 percent were non-families. 22.9 percent were single households and 8.6 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.76 people.

21.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.0 percent were between 18 and 24 years old, 25.7 percent between 25 and 44 years old, 29.2 percent between 45 and 64, and 16.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For all females there were 96.7 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 94.9 men.

The median income for a household (median) was 35 888 US $ , and the median income for a family $ 42,037. Males had a median income of $ 30,138 and females $ 22,066. The per capita income was $ 19,857. 12.6 percent of the population and 9.5 percent of families are below the poverty line. 19.4 percent of them are children and young people under 18 years of age and 8.1 percent are 65 years of age or older.
