Nash County is a county in the US state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Nashville .

The county is located in northeastern North Carolina, about 25 miles north of Virginia and has an area of ​​1,406 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Halifax County , Edgecombe County , Wilson County , Johnston County , Franklin County, and Wake County .

Nash County is divided into 15 townships : Bailey, Castalia, Coopers, Dry Wells, Ferrells, Griffins, Jackson, Mannings, Nashville, North Whitakers, Oak Level, Red Oak, Rocky Mount, South Whitakers and Stony Creek.

history

Nash County was formed on November 15, 1777 from parts of Edgecombe County. It was named, like the district capital Nashville, after General Francis Nash , who was killed at the Battle of Germantown during the American Revolutionary War .

The Nash County Courthouse (1948) is one of 28 entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .
