Cabarrus County is a county in the state of North Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Concord .
geography
The county is located west of the geographic center of North Carolina, is about 25 miles from South Carolina in the southwest , and has an area of 945 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rowan County , Stanly County , Union County , Mecklenburg County, and Iredell County .
Cabarrus County is divided into 12 townships which are numbered: 1 (Harrisburg), 2 (Poplar Tent), 3 (Odell), 4 (Kannapolis), 5 (New Gilead), 6 (Rimertown), 7 (Gold Hill), 8 (Mount Pleasant), 9 (Georgeville), 10 (Midland), 11 (Central Cabarrus) and 12 (Concord).
history
Cabarrus County was formed in 1792 from parts of Mecklenburg County. It was named after Stephen Cabarrus , a member of the government. In 1799 gold was found in the area, which triggered the North Carolina gold rush .
The county has a National Historic Landmark , the Reed Gold Mine . A total of 27 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 23, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Cabarrus County had 131,063 people in 49,519 households and 36,545 families. The population density was 139 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.26 percent white, 12.18 percent African American, 0.34 percent Native American, 0.91 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.30 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.99 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.05 percent of the population.
Of the 49,519 households, 34.9 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.2 percent of these were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers and 26.2 percent were non-families. 21.8 percent were single households and 8.0 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.03.
25.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 32.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 11.6 percent were 86 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For all females there were 97.0 males. For all women aged 18 or over there were 94.1 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 46,140, and the median income for a family is $ 53,692. Males had a median income of $ 36,714 versus $ 26,010 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,121. 7.1 percent of the population and 4.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. 8.3 percent of them are children and young people under 18 years of age and 9.6 percent are 65 years of age or older.
