Mecklenburg County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000, the county had 32,380 residents and a population density of 20 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Boydton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Mecklenburg County is located in the extreme south of Virginia, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1759 square kilometers, of which 143 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by Counties Halifax , Charlotte , Lunenburg, and Brunswick in Virginia and Warren , Vance, and Granville in North Carolina.

The county is home to the dam and much of the John H. Kerr Reservoir .

According to the 2000 census , Mecklenburg County had 32,380 people in 12,951 households and 8,962 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 59.24 percent white, 39.08 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.30 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.68 percent were descended from two or more races.
