Wythe County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000 , the county had 27,599 residents and a population density of 23 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Wytheville . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Wythe County is located in southwest Virginia, about 30 km to the north of West Virginia and south of North Carolina and has an area of ​​1,203 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. history

It was formed in 1790 from parts of Montgomery County and Grayson County. It was named after George Wythe , who was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence.
