Louisa County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000 , the county had 25,627 residents and a population density of 20 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Louisa . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Louisa County is located in northeastern Virginia and has an area of 1,323 square kilometers, of which 35 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Spotsylvania County , Hanover County , Goochland County , Fluvanna County , Albemarle County, and Orange County .
history
It was formed in 1742 from parts of Hanover County and named after Princess Louisa , the youngest daughter of King George II and later wife of Frederick V of Denmark , King of Denmark and Norway .

Louisa County had a population of 25,627 as of the 2000 census . 185 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 9,945 households and 7,259 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.55 percent white, 21.58 percent African American, 0.42 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.01 percent were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.71 percent of the population.
Of the 9,945 households, 31.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent were single mothers, 27.0 percent were non-families, 22.1 percent were single households, and 9.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 94.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 39,402 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,722. Males had a median income of $ 31,764 versus $ 24,826 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,479. 7.1 percent of families and 10.2 percent of the population are below the poverty line. These included 13.0 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 12.5 percent of residents aged 65 and over.
