Greensville County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 11,560 people and a population density of 15 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Emporia .

Greensville County is located in southeast New York, borders North Carolina to the south and has an area of ​​769 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Sussex County , Southampton County , Brunswick County, and Dinwiddie County .

history

It was formed in 1780 from parts of Brunswick County and Sussex County. It was probably named after Sir Richard Grenville , the leader of the Roanoke Island settlement in 1585.

As of the 2000 census , Greensville County had 11,560 people in 3,375 households and 2,396 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer.
