Prince William County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2010 census, the county had 402,002 people and a population density of 445 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Manassas .

Prince William County is located in northeast Virginia, borders Maryland to the east and has an area of 902 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Fairfax County , Stafford County , Fauquier County, and Loudoun County .
history
It was formed in 1731 from parts of King George County and Stafford County. The county was named after Wilhelm August, Duke of Cumberland , the third son of George II , King of England and his wife Caroline von Ansbach . During the American Civil War , on July 21, 1861, the first and from August 28 to 30, 1862 the second battle of the Bull Run took place in the county .

According to the 2000 census , Prince William County had 280,813 people in 94,570 households and 72,724 families. The population density was 321 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.93 percent white, 18.76 percent African American, 0.39 percent Native American, 3.81 percent Asian, 0.13 percent from the Pacific island area and 4.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.62 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 9.74 percent of the population.
Of the 94,570 households, 44.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 61.3 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers, 23.1 percent were non-families, 17.1 percent were single households and 3.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.32 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 35.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 20.8 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 4.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.4 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 65,960 , and the median income for a family is $ 71,622. Males had a median income of $ 45,595 versus $ 34,286 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,641. 3.3 percent of families and 4.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 5.6 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 4.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
