Rockingham County is located in northwest Virginia, bordering West Virginia to the west and has an area of ​​2210 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Shenandoah County , Page County , Greene County , Albemarle County, and Augusta County .

history

It was formed in 1778 from parts of Augusta County. It was named after Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham , a British statesman.

According to the 2000 census , Rockingham County had 67,725 people in 25,355 households and 18,889 families. The population density was 31 people per square kilometer.
