Madison County is located in and bordering the north-central part of Virginia and covers an area of ​​833 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rappahannock County , Culpeper County , Orange County , Greene County, and Page Counties .

history

It was formed in December 1792 from parts of Culpeper County. It was named after the Madison family who owned land on the Rapidan River . President James Madison was a descendant of this family.
