Augusta County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000 , the county had 65,615 residents and a population density of 26 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Verona .

Augusta County is located in northwest Virginia, bordering West Virginia in the upper northwest and has an area of ​​2515 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. The county is divided into seven administrative units: Beverley Manor, Middle River, North River, Pastures, Riverheads, South River, and Wayne. history

It was formed on August 1, 1738 from parts of Orange County. It is named after Augusta von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg , Princess of Wales, wife of Friedrich Ludwig von Hannover and mother of the English King Georg III.
