Shenandoah County is a county in the US state of Virginia in the United States . In 2000, the county had 35,075 residents and a population density of 26 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Woodstock .

Shenandoah County is located in northern Virginia, bordering West Virginia to the northwest and has an area of ​​1,327 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Frederick County , Warren County , Page County, and Rockingham County .

history

It was formed in 1772 from parts of Dunmore County (no longer existing). It was named after the Senedos , an Indian tribe. The Battle of New Market took place here on May 15, 1864 during the American Civil War .

According to the 2000 census , Shenandoah County had 35,075 people in 14,296 households and 10,064 families. The population density was 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.60 percent white, 1.17 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.79 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races.
