Brunswick County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 18,419 people and a population density of 13 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Lawrenceville . The county also claims to be the origin of the original Brunswick Stew .

Brunswick County is located in southeast Virginia, bordering North Carolina to the south and has an area of ​​1,475 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Dinwiddie County , Greensville County , Mecklenburg County , Lunenburg County, and Nottoway County .

history

It was formed from Prince George County in 1720 and expanded from parts of Isle of Wight County and Surry County in 1732. It was named after the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg in Germany, as one of the titles of the British Kings from the House of Hanover was the Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg .
