Geographical location

Quantico is located approximately 60 km SSW from central Washington, DC and approximately 37 km NNE from Fredericksburg . The place has an area of ​​0.2 km².

The place is also known for the US Marine Corps Base Quantico of the same name and the FBI Academy located on its premises . In 1942 the Office of the Coordinator of Information , which is a training facility for Subversion , opened here .

The place itself is enclosed on three sides by the military base and on the east by the Potomac River and can only be reached via the military compound or via the water; there is no bridge over the river. The name is a modification of the language of the Doeg, a tribe that spoke one of the Algonquin languages and lived in the area of ​​what later became Quantico.
