Qanatê Kurdo

Qanatê Kurdo or Kanat Kalaschewitsch Kurdojew (* 1909 in the Kars region ; † October 31, 1985 in Leningrad ) was a Kurdish author, linguist and academic of the Yazidi faith.

Life

He was born in the village of Sûsiz in what is now the Turkish province of Kars . At that time, Kars was part of the Russian Empire . Due to the turmoil of the First World War, his family fled to Armenia in 1918 and from there to Tbilisi . He attended a Kurdish school in Tbilisi. Many famous Kurdish authors from the Soviet Union such as B. Dr. Çerkez Bakayêv attended this school. In 1928 he went to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg ) to continue his studies. There he attended the Faculty of Language, History and Literature at the Leningrad University . In 1941 he obtained his doctorate there. After the Second World War he began to teach Kurdology and the Kurdish language at the Faculty of "Oriental Studies". In 1959 a chair of Kurdology was founded, the head of which became Kurdo from 1961. He died in Leningrad on October 31, 1985.

Works

Qanatê Kurdo wrote more than 100 monographs , books and articles on the Kurdish language , history and folklore. He also trained more than 20 Kurdologists.
