Horry County is a county in the state of South Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Conway .

The county is located in the far east of South Carolina, borders North Carolina to the northeast and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast and has an area of 3,250 square kilometers, of which 314 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Robeson County, North Carolina, Columbus County, North Carolina, Brunswick County, North Carolina, Georgetown County , Marion County, and Dillon County .
history
Horry County was formed on December 19, 1801. It was named after Peter Horry (1747-1815), an officer in the American Revolutionary War .

According to the 2000 census , Horry County had 210,757 people in 81,800 households and 54,478 families. The population density was 67 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.05 percent white, 15.50 percent African American, 0.40 percent Native American, 0.76 percent Asian, 0.06 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.16 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.07 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.57 percent of the population.
Of the 81,800 households, 26.3 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.4 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers, 33.4 percent were non-families, 25.8 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.84 people.
21.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old. 9.4 percent between 18 and 24, 29.3 percent between 25 and 44, 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,470 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,676. Males had a median income of $ 27,663 versus $ 21,676 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,949. 8.4 percent of families and 12.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
