Latta is a town in Dillon County in South Carolina , United States . In 2000 the place had 1,410 inhabitants. The city is the birthplace of soul singer Chuck Jackson and opera composer Carlisle Floyd . It is also the hometown of athletes Raymond Felton and Kevin Sox .

Earlier names of the place are Bishopville and Sardis . The location is southwest of Dillon on US Highway 501 / South Carolina State Route 301 , which is intersected by South Carolina State Route 301 in downtown.

National Register of Historic Places
The Latta Cotton Press is a wooden press built around 1798 to press cotton into bales. It was relocated from its previous location in 1950 and is on the National Register of Historic Places .
