Raymond Bernard Felton Jr. (born June 26, 1984 in Marion , South Carolina ) is an American basketball player. The 1.85 meter tall point guard has been active in the NBA since 2005 and was most recently under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder .

Career

In the NCAA , Felton played from 2002 to 2005 for the renowned team of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , with which he won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship in his junior year there . In the subsequent NBA draft he was selected in 5th place by the Charlotte Bobcats , making him one of four players in the UNC Tar Heels among the 14 first selected players, the so-called " Lottery Picks" .

In his first season , Felton quickly became a regular with the Bobcats and selected due to his performance in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . In 2006/07 and 2007/08 he was one of the ten players with the highest average of assists per game in the league.

For the 2010/11 season he moved to the New York Knicks , where he developed into one of the best point guards in the Eastern Conference . In February 2011 he was transferred to the Denver Nuggets . With the Nuggets, however, Felton retired in the following season in the first round of the playoffs.

In late June 2011, Felton was transferred from the Nuggets to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of a trade . For the Blazers he played the entire 2011/2012 season , but Portland could not reach the playoffs. In the summer of 2012, Felton was handed over by the Blazers together with Kurt Thomas to the New York Knicks , for which he had already played from 2010 to 2011.

While the Knicks surprisingly took 2nd place in the Eastern Conference at the end of the following regular season and ultimately reached the Conference semifinals, the 2013/14 season was disappointing for Felton, who was also charged with unauthorized possession of weapons in February 2014.

For the 2014/2015 season, Felton and center Tyson Chandler were transferred from the Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks .

After his contract with the Mavs expired, Felton moved to the Los Angeles Clippers . From 2017 to 2019 he played for the Oklahoma City Thunder .
