Kurt Vincent Thomas (born October 4, 1972 in Dallas , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1995 to 2013 .
Career
After attending Hillcrest High School in Dallas , he went to Texas Christian University . In his senior 1994/95 season he led the NCAA in points (28.9 points per game) and rebounds (14.6 rebounds per game). He was only the third player in history to achieve this in one season. Thomas was then selected tenth in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat .
On February 14, 1997 he was given to the Dallas Mavericks together with Predrag Danilović and Martin Müürsepp in exchange for Jamal Mashburn . Due to a protracted injury, he missed almost the entire 1997/98 season and was set up on December 5, 1997 by the Mavericks as an assistant coach .
On January 22, 1999, he got a contract with the New York Knicks , where he was a regular for many years in the power-forward position and with the Knicks in 1999 reached the NBA final. In his prime with the Knicks, Thomas averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds.
On June 28, 2005, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns along with the draft rights to Dijon Thompson . The Knicks received in return Quentin Richardson , the draft rights to Nate Robinson and additional cash benefits.
On July 20, 2007, Thomas was transferred to the Seattle SuperSonics , but they passed him on to the San Antonio Spurs during the 2007/08 season . The Sonics got Brent Barry , Francisco Elson and a first-round draft pick from 2009.
After a season with the Chicago Bulls , Thomas moved to the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2011/2012 season . His last NBA station was the New York Knicks, for which he had previously been active for six years.
After his contract was terminated on April 12, 2013, Thomas ended his NBA career at the age of 40.
