Martin Müürsepp (born September 26, 1974 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is a former Estonian basketball player and current basketball coach. He played for two years in the North American professional league NBA , for the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks . With AEK Athens he won the Saporta Cup and with UNICS Kazan the FIBA Europe League .
Career
Beginnings
In his youth, Müürsepp first played football before he started playing basketball at the age of nine. He was appointed for the first time in 1989 in a youth team of the national basketball team of the Soviet Union and committed the following year by BC Kalev . At a young age he played in Sweden and Israel before returning to Estonia in 1995. There he was committed by JK Tallinna Kalev .
NBA
In Tallinn, Müürsepp played himself so much in the limelight that he was eligible for the 1996 NBA Draft . There he was finally selected in 25th place by the Utah Jazz , who immediately transferred him to the Miami Heat . There he played no role with the then coach Pat Riley , only came to a total of 27 minutes of action, and was transferred to the Dallas Mavericks in the same season , where he had a little more playing time. In the 1997/98 season he continued to play for the Mavericks and came to 14 minutes - and 5.7 points per game.
Europe
After Müürsepp was no longer used at Dallas, he moved to Greece in 1999. First he played there with Aris Thessaloniki and between 1999 and 2001 with AEK Athens . With AEK he won the Saporta Cup in 2000 and the Greek Cup twice.
Between the 2001/02 and 2005/06 seasons, Martin Müürsepp played for various top Russian clubs. With UNICS Kazan he won the FIBA EuropeLeague in 2004 , in which he was also named MVP of the Final Four. During this time he also played with CSKA Moscow in the ULEB Euroleague and also won the Greek Cup.
In 2006 he went back to Estonia, where he played for Tartu Rock and won the Estonian championship. In 2007 he played for a year with the Melbourne Tigers in Australia before moving back to BC Kalev due to a serious injury in 2008, where his professional career began. With the BC he won the 2009 Estonian Basketball Cup, his last title. His final year as a player was with BC Rakvere Tarvas. Then he ended his playing career.
Coaching
Martin Müürsepp began to work as a coach immediately after retiring from his career. His first stop is his "hometown club" BC Kalev, where he is an assistant coach .
