history

Tartu Ülikool was one of the dominant teams in Estonia after its establishment and won eight Estonian championships in twelve years by 1959. In addition, they were initially the only Estonian club to win the championship of the Soviet Union in 1949 , and in the following years they came second in this competition in 1950 and third in 1951. It was not until 1969 that one could follow up on these successes and was Estonian champions from 1969 to 1978 with the exception of 1971. 1979 was another success in the Estonian cup competition, after having won the double of championship and cup six times in the past .

It was only after the team returned to the University of Tartu in 2000 that there were renewed successes. In 2000 and 2001 they won the Estonian double and in 2002 another cup victory. After another double in 2004, they were able to win the championship again in 2007 and 2008, and in 2008 they were able to draw international attention for the first time and entered the Final Four tournament of the FIBA EuroCup . There it was only enough for a fourth place after two defeats. While there were three cup titles in a row at national level between 2009 and 2011 and the championship in 2010. In the Baltic Basketball League , which has existed since 2004 , they reached the Final Four tournament for the first time in 2009, after being able to eliminate national arch-rivals BC Kalev as the last qualified team in the main round in the quarter-finals . As the host of the final tournament you finished third behind the two leading Lithuanian clubs Lietuvos rytas Vilnius and Žalgiris Kaunas . In 2010 they won the Champions Cup of the Baltic Basketball League as host against Lietuvos Rytas and lost in 2011 as defending champion in front of a home crowd against VEF Rīga .
