György Sztantics
György Sztantics [ ˈɟørɟ ˈstɒntitʃ ] (born August 19, 1878 in Szabadka, today Subotica ; † July 9, 1918 ibid) was a Hungarian athlete . He was the second Olympic walking champion.
On April 30, 1906 at the Olympic Intermediate Games , the first 1500 meter walking competition in Olympic history was held. It was won by the American George Bonhag , who was actually a middle-distance runner. In this final the Hungarian György Sztantics came in seventh and last place. The next day the 3000 meter walk was held. Sztantics won in 15: 13.2 minutes ahead of the German Hermann Müller .
