He is also the first Summer League player whose jersey number is no longer given in his honor. The number 4 by Nate Robinson has been hanging from the ceiling in the Cox Pavilion at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas since 2008 . He also won the 2008 NBA Summer League MVP Trophy.

Robinson was selected in the NBA Draft 2005 in 21st place by the Phoenix Suns , but swapped together with Quentin Richardson for Kurt Thomas and draft rights (54th pick) to the New York Knicks . Robinson played 72 games, including 26 from the start. He got an average of 9.3 points and 2.0 assists per game. On February 14, 2009 he took part again in the Slam Dunk Contest. In the first round he made two dunks and finished second behind Dwight Howard with 87 points . Before the final, he changed his clothes: he put on a green jersey, green shorts and green shoes, and he also had a green ball. With this he countered the Superman theme by Dwight Howard, because in the comic, Superman’s archenemy is Kryptonite is green. He made KryptoNATE out of Kryptonite. He jumped over the 36 centimeter taller Howard and dunked.

He fitted in well with the rotation of new coach Mike D'Antoni . Robinson, who is deeply embedded in the basketball community of his hometown Seattle, quickly got caught in the tension between the fan scenes from Seattle and Oklahoma City. When he described the Thunder fans as "the best fans on the planet" during the 2011 playoffs, he felt compelled to weaken emerging criticism through balancing statements. He was released from the Thunder shortly after the start of the 2011/2012 season and signed with the Golden State Warriors on January 4. At the Warriors he shared a seat with Stephen Curry . On July 31, 2012, he was signed by the Chicago Bulls.
