Jeffrey Lynn "Jeff" Green (born August 28, 1986 in Cheverly, Maryland ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Houston Rockets in the NBA . Before he signed up for the 2007 NBA draft , he played for Georgetown University in the NCAA .

Early years

Jeff Green was born in Cheverly to Jeffrey Green Sr. and Felicia Akingube. He attended Northwestern High School in Hyattsville , Maryland . Green was able to lead his school team, the NHS Wildcats, to the championship in 2004.

In 2003 the trainer Craig Esherik piloted him to Georgetown University . Esherik was fired before Green came to the university because he only had a record of 13:15 wins with the team. John Thompson III signed a contract as the new coach. Ironically, the two players Esherik brought to the university were the main ones that helped Thompson succeed. Those two players were Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert .

college

With a height of 2.06 meters Green played on the College Power Forward . At the same time he was the captain of the team. In an interview with Green, his trainer John Thompson said: “You will wonder if I was exaggerating, but everything I say is true. Jeff Green is the most skilled player I've ever coached. ”Green was obviously very good at the Princeton Offense. Thompson had developed this as an assistant coach and coach for the Princeton University team .

Green as a college player

When Georgetown beat Duke University's elite team in 2006 , Green was the most important factor in the game. The coach and his teammates praised how he can involve everyone in the game, his very disciplined behavior and how he can calm the team down. Green had all the essential characteristics of a captain.

In the 2006/07 season, Green made several game-changing throws. The most important of all was the "game winner" against Vanderbilt , who secured Georgetown advance in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship . When the shot clock showed only one second, Green hit a shot over two opponents. Vanderbilt then had only 2.5 seconds to win the game with a similar throw, which they failed. Some believe that Green made a step mistake on the throw , but the umpires finally counted the throw and Georgetown won.

NBA career

In the NBA Draft 2007, the Boston Celtics Green selected in 5th place and then transferred him, together with Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West for Ray Allen to the Seattle SuperSonics . In his first season, Green achieved sovereign averages of 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team along with teammate Kevin Durant .

In its second season, the Sonics were relocated to Oklahoma City and renamed Oklahoma City Thunder . Green got 16.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in his sophomore year, but missed the playoffs again with the Thunder . With the good development of Durant, Green, James Harden and Russell Westbrook , they reached the playoffs in 2010.

On February 24, 2011 he was transferred to the Boston Celtics together with Nenad Krstić in exchange for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson . Shortly before the start of the 2011/12 season , a routine examination revealed an aortic aneurysm that required surgery. That's why he was out for the entire season. After the season he signed a new contract in Boston. During the 2012/13 season he achieved a new career record with 43 points in his home game against the Miami Heat on March 18 . He ended the 2013/14 season with an average of 16.9 points as the best scorer in the Celtics. The playoffs were clearly missed, however.

Green in the jersey of the Celtics

After the Celtics decided to rebuild for the 2014/15 season , Green was transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies on January 12, 2015 in a three-team transfer. A year later he was given to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Lance Stephenson . He played for the Orlando Magic in the 2016/17 season before moving to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 . In the 2018/19 season, Green played for the Washington Wizards and achieved 12.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in 77 games. In the summer of 2019, Green switched to Utah Jazz . However, he was released from Jazz after a few months. By then he had completed 30 season games.
