Lance Stephenson, Jr. (born September 5, 1990 in New York City , New York ) is an American basketball player . The former NBA player is currently under contract with the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Career
High school & college
Stephenson attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn , which was also attended by former NBA players Stephon Marbury and Sebastian Telfair .
On June 30, 2009, Stephenson announced that he would play for the University of Cincinnati . In his freshman season in Cincinnati, Stephenson averaged 12.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. After only one season in Cincinnati, he left this without a degree and signed up for the NBA Draft .
NBA
Indiana Pacers (2010-2014)
In the 2010 NBA draft , the Indiana Pacers voted Stephenson in the second round, in 40th place in the draft. In total, he played only 12 games for the Indiana Pacers in his first season, before being demoted towards the end of the season due to discrepancies and no longer being used.
On April 25, 2012, in his second season, Stephenson was in the starting line-up for the first time .
Due to an injury to Danny Granger , Stephenson was recalled to the starting five in his third season. He was on the grid 72 times this season. He was also able to achieve 8.8 points and 3.9 rebounds.
For the 2013-14 season , Stephenson kept his place in the starting five and became an important player on his team. On November 11, 2013, Stephenson scored the first triple double of his career against the Memphis Grizzlies with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. In the choice of Most Improved Player , he came second behind Goran Dragic . In the playoffs , Stephenson failed with the Pacers again in the conference final at the Miami Heat .
Charlotte Hornets (2014-2015)
After turning down a contract extension with the Pacers, he signed a $ 27 million three-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets on July 18, 2014 . Stephenson, however, could not meet the expectations placed in him. He hit a bad 37.6% from the field and only 17% from the three-point line.
Los Angeles Clippers (2015-2016)
On June 15, 2015, Stephenson was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers against Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes .
Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, and Minnesota Timberwolves (2016–2017)
On February 18, 2016, Stephenson was traded against Jeff Green to the Memphis Grizzlies . Stephenson was able to build on his performances from Indiana times for the first time and scored 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in the remaining 26 games of the season. With Memphis he qualified for the playoffs and came in four playoff games on 13.0 points on average. However, Memphis decided not to renew his contract. Stephenson then signed with the New Orleans Pelicans . After six games, Stephenson suffered a groin injury, after which he was out for several weeks. The Pelicans therefore decided to release Stephenson early. He was then signed again for only six games by the Minnesota Timberwolves .
Indiana Pacers (2017-2018)
Shortly before the playoffs, Stephenson was signed by his first NBA club, the Indiana Pacers. After six games in the regular season in which he came off the bench, he played a very good first-round play-off series against the Cleveland Cavaliers - he averaged 16 in the four games that the Pacers lost Points, making him the team's third best shooter after Paul George and Jeff Teague .
Los Angeles Lakers (Since 2018)
Despite good performances, the Pacers and Stephenson parted ways again in summer 2018 and Stephenson moved within the league to the Los Angeles Lakers , who were also able to lure superstar LeBron James to California. As another veteran alongside superstar James, Stephenson should ensure that the Lakers reach the playoffs again after years on average.
