Sebastian Telfair (born June 9, 1985 in Brooklyn , New York ) is a retired American basketball player . Between 2004 and 2013 he played in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Career
Telfair moved straight from high school to the NBA as a great talent. In the 2004 NBA Draft , he was selected 13th by the Portland Trail Blazers . He began his career in Portland, where he spent the first two years and 9.5 points and 3.6 assists per game in his second NBA year. As part of the NBA Draft 2007 he was transferred to the Boston Celtics .
After he could not meet the expectations of the Celtics, he was transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves after a year , where he spent two years as a part starter on the point guard position. In the summer of 2009 he was sold to the Los Angeles Clippers and a few months later to the Cleveland Cavaliers . On July 26, 2010, he signed a new contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, for which he was already active. For the 2011/2012 season he received no new contract and moved within the league to the Phoenix Suns . On February 21, 2013, the Suns transferred Telfair to the Toronto Raptors .
On October 15, 2013, Telfair signed a contract with Tianjin Ronggang in the Chinese Basketball League. After a year in China, he returned to the NBA and signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder , but was released after a few games. He returned to China and signed with the Fujian Sturgeons for the 2016/17 season .
Personal
Telfair is the cousin of former NBA player Stephon Marbury .
In 2005 an ESPN- produced documentary about Telfair's final season at Lincoln High School in New York entitled "Through the Fire" was released.
