Career

NBA

Marbury moved to the NBA in 1996 after just a year of studying at the Georgia Institute of Technology . In fourth place in the NBA Draft of 1996, the Milwaukee Bucks elected him to then send him to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Ray Allen . In 1997, Marbury was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team for his first-year achievements . With the Wolves, Marbury only played two and a half years; because of differences with management regarding the amount of his contract extension, he requested a move to the New Jersey Nets .

With the Nets Marbury played only with moderate success until 2001, but was invited to the NBA All-Star Game the first of a total of two times in his career . Due to the unsuccessful Nets, the management accepted a player swap offer from the Phoenix Suns and gave Marbury in a trade for Jason Kidd . With the Suns Marbury played particularly successfully in the 2002/03 season , when the team with him, Shawn Marion and Amar'e Stoudemire only narrowly defeated the eventual champions, the San Antonio Spurs , in the first round of the playoffs .

After an injury to Stoudemire at the beginning of the 2003/04 season , the Suns played unexpectedly bad, which is why Marbury had to change teams again and was sent to the New York Knicks. There he played with only moderate success. He was only able to help his team play-off once in around four years .

In 2009, after leaving the New York Knicks as a free agent , he was signed to join the reigning champions Boston Celtics . On September 10, 2009 rumors surfaced that Marbury no longer wanted to play in the NBA. He denied this immediately via Twitter.

China

On January 18, 2010, the Chinese club Shanxi announced the commitment of Marbury until the end of the current season. Marbury becomes China's highest-paid foreign basketball player of all time. Marbury would like to continue to market its shoe brand in China and thus open up new markets. After this season he moved to Foshan Dralions within the Chinese first division.

In 2011 Marbury moved to the Beijing Ducks. With these he won the Chinese basketball championship in 2012. Also in 2014 and 2015, Marbury won the Chinese championship with Beijing. He was also named the Finals MVP of the 2015 encounter.

In the last year of his career he played for the Beijing Fly Dragons.

National team

In 2004 Marbury was a member of the US Olympic team that won the bronze medal in Athens.

Personal

Marbury is the cousin of former NBA player Sebastian Telfair .

In 2006, Marbury partnered with Steve & Barry's to market shoes and apparel that were nicknamed Starbury. Marbury wanted to compete with established companies like Nike , Reebok and Adidas . His shoes only cost $ 15 and are just as good as the $ 200 rivals because they are all made in China and the same material is used. With these cheap shoes, Marbury wanted to ensure that children and young people, especially from the poorer backgrounds from which he himself comes, no longer have to buy the overpriced models just to be cool . Marbury himself wore his shoes during his NBA games.
