Matt Kelly Barnes (born March 9, 1980 in Santa Clara , California ) is a retired American basketball player . He last played with the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association .

High school

Barnes attended Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, California and was a member of the basketball and football teams.

NBA

After his time at the University of California, Los Angeles , Barnes signed up for the 2002 NBA Draft . He was drafted in the second round as the 46th pick by the Memphis Grizzlies . He was later transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Wesley Person , but was released in October before the start of the season. He then played until the end of the season in the NBA Development League ("D-League") for the Fayetteville Patriots .

In 2004 Barnes played briefly for the Los Angeles Clippers , but later signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings . He was then transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers after the 2004/05 season together with Chris Webber , but could not complete a single game due to knee problems and was then dismissed.

In the summer of 2005, Barnes signed a contract with the New York Knicks as a free agent . During the season, after six games, he was released from the Knicks. Barnes finished the season with the Philadelphia 76ers .

Barnes finally made his breakthrough with the Golden State Warriors . When Mike Dunleavy Jr. could not meet the expectations of the coach, Barnes got more and more playing time. He took advantage of this increase and improved his statistics.

In 2017 he became NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors.
