Michael Joseph Dunleavy Jr. (born September 15, 1980 in Fort Worth , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2002 to 2017 . His father, Mike Dunleavy Sr. , is a retired basketball player and coach.

Career

college

Dunleavy played for three years for the renowned Duke University under coach Mike Krzyzewski , with whom he celebrated the 2001 NCAA championship. He then signed up for the 2002 NBA Draft . At the draft, Dunleavy was selected third by the Golden State Warriors .

NBA

At the Warriors, Dunleavy worked his way from bank player to regular player. He increased his values ​​from 5.7 points as a rookie to 13.4 points, in his third NBA year with the Warriors in the 2004-05 season. However, he never moved into the playoffs with the Warriors.

In the middle of the 2006-07 season Dunleavy lost his regular place. He was then traded to the Indiana Pacers . In return, Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington , among others, moved to the Warriors. In Indiana Dunleavy was promoted directly to the starter, so that he could achieve career highs in the 2007-08 season in all 82 games with 19.1 points and 3.5 assists per game. In the following season, however, Dunleavy only played 18 season games. Plagued by injuries, Dunleavy achieved an average of only 10 points and 4 rebounds per game in 2009-10 and 2010-11 and lost his regular place.

For the 2011/2012 season, Dunleavy moved within the league to the Milwaukee Bucks . Dunleavy played for the Bucks until 2013 and was able to move into the playoffs with the team in 2012/2013. There, however, the team failed 4-0 to the Miami Heat .

After his contract with the Bucks expired, Dunleavy agreed on a contract with the Chicago Bulls until 2015 . In the Bulls, Dunleavy was back on the grid more often. In the 2014-15 season he even started in all 63 games and averaged 9.4 points. In the 2015–16 season, however, injury problems caught up with him, so Dunleavy was only used in 31 games.

In the summer of 2016, Dunleavy was transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers . Only a few months later he was transferred to the Atlanta Hawks for Kyle Korver along with Mo Williams and a future first round pick . He completed 30 season games for the Hawks before he was released from them. Dunleavy then announced his resignation. He averaged 11.2 points, 2.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 986 NBA games in his 15-year NBA career.

Since 2018

Following his career, Dunleavy became an NBA scout for the Golden State Warriors in 2018 . On August 29, 2019, Dunleavy was promoted to the Warriors' new Assistant General Manager .
