Maurice "Mo" Williams (born December 19, 1982 in Jackson , Mississippi ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2003 to 2017 . Williams became an NBA All-Star once in his NBA career and won the NBA Championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 .

NBA career

Utah Jazz (2003-2004)

Maurice Williams was voted 47th in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz . After a mixed debut season, he signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Bucks .

Milwaukee Bucks (2004-2008)

He replaced TJ Ford , who was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Charlie Villanueva a year later when he was injured. On December 20, 2006, he scored a triple-double against the Miami Heat with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In 2008 he was then sent to Cleveland in a 3-team trade (with Oklahoma City Thunder , Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks ).

Cleveland Cavaliers (2008-2011)

Since his previous jersey number 25 was no longer awarded by the Cavaliers in honor of Mark Price , Williams switched to jersey number 2. On February 10, 2009 he was nominated for the NBA All-Star Game and one day later he achieved his career best of 44 points in a game against the Phoenix Suns . This season the Cavaliers were able to record 66 victories and thus had the best win rate in the NBA.

Williams in the jersey of the Cavs (April 2009)

After LeBron James left the Cavaliers, Williams became one of the team's lead players.

Los Angeles Clippers (2011-2012)

On February 24, 2011 Williams was transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Baron Davis . With the Clippers he started the remaining games. With the commitments of Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups for the 2011/12 season , Williams lost his place as a starter and came from the bank as a so-called Sixth Man . In the election for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award , he landed in eighth place.

Utah Jazz (2012-2013)

On June 29th, Williams was transferred to Utah as part of a trade between the Clippers , Jazz , Rockets and the Mavs . For the Jazz, Williams ran as a starter on the point guard position. However, due to injuries, he only played in 46 games for the Jazz. After his contract expired in the summer of 2013, Williams was not offered a new contract with Jazz.

Portland Trail Blazers (2013-2014)

On August 8, 2013, Williams signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2013/2014 season. For the Blazers he scored 9.7 points on average and reached the second playoff round with these, where they were defeated by the eventual champions San Antonio Spurs .

Minnesota Timberwolves (2014-2015)

At the end of the season, Williams left the Blazers and signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves . On January 13, 2014, Williams, with 52 points against the Indiana Pacers , set another career record. He also broke the team record of Corey Brewer and Kevin Love by one point.

Charlotte Hornets (2015)

At the beginning of February 2015, Williams was transferred from the Timberwolves to the Charlotte Hornets via Trade . In return, Guard Gary Neal moved to Minnesota.

Return to Cleveland and Retired (2015-2017)

On July 10, 2015, Mo Williams signed a new contract with the Cavs and returned to Cleveland after 4 years. With these, Williams won the NBA championship in 2016. After winning the title, he planned his active career.

However, he only stayed with the Cavaliers for another year. Due to a knee injury, however, he did not take part in the preparations for the 2016-17 NBA season . Just a few months later, he was transferred to the Atlanta Hawks for Kyle Korver along with Mike Dunleavy, Jr. and a future first-round pick .

A short time later, however, Williams was fired by the Hawks without having made a game for them. The Cavs were Williams' last stop as a professional basketball player.
