Beginnings

childhood

Love was born in Santa Monica , California , the second of three children of Stan and Karen Love , and moved with his parents to Portland , Oregon a year later . His father Stan Love played in the 1970s as a forward in the NBA for the Baltimore Bullets and the Los Angeles Lakers . Kevin Love is a nephew of Beach Boys member Mike Love , who is Stan's brother. His aunt is the harpist Maureen Love.

Love's father introduced him to basketball at an early age and showed him footage of the Los Angeles Lakers at the time of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Boston Celtics . Other great players he began studying video at the age of five were Hakeem Olajuwon , David Robinson , Charles Barkley, and Michael Jordan .

High school

Love attended Lake Oswego High School in Clackamas County , Oregon . There he was one of the best basketball players of his year. In his high school career, he achieved 26.8 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. As a 10th grade student, he leads Lake Oswego into the 2005 Oregon State High School Basketball Championship Game, but the team lost 57:53 to Jesuit High School.

college

Love as a UCLA player (2008)

In July 2006, Love announced that he would be playing for the University of California, Los Angeles . On April 17, 2008, he announced that he would leave the UCLA Bruins after his freshman year and sign up for the NBA draft .

NBA career

Minnesota Timberwolves (2008-2014)

Love was drafted by Memphis Grizzlies and then transferred to the Timberwolves in an 8-player deal. In his first Summer League game against the Dallas Mavericks Love got 18 points and 13 rebounds and in his second game against the Los Angeles Lakers he scored 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Love's first participation in an NBA game was for a total of 19 minutes on October 29, 2008 against the Sacramento Kings; while he was able to contribute 12 points, 9 rebounds and two blocks to the 98:96 victory of the Timberwolves . During his first season he got an average of 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds. With 29 double doubles he was the tenth best player in 2008/2009 and with 734 rebounds the best rookie in the franchise so far. He finished 6th in the NBA Rookie of the Year award at the end of the season .

His sophomore season began with an injury in a pre-season game against the Chicago Bulls on October 16, 2009. He suffered a fracture in his left hand, causing him to miss the first 19 games of the season. Love returned in December playing at the New Orleans Hornets , where he came off the bench with 11 points and rebounds in 24 minutes. At the end of the season there were 14.0 points and 11.1 rebounds for Love. Despite the missed missions, he scored 36 more double doubles than in the previous season and was the seventh best player in 2009/10 at this value. With 25 rebounds, Love managed a game with more than 20 rebounds for the first time in his NBA career this season.

Love with the Timberwolves (2014)

In the following season he became one of the top players in the league. On November 12, 2010 he got 31 points, 31 rebounds and 5 assists in the game against the New York Knicks . This was the first NBA game in 28 years in which a player scored a double-double with more than 30 points and rebounds. His 31 rebounds are also the highest value ever achieved by a Minnesota Timberwolves player in an NBA game. On February 4, 2011, Love was named an All-Star as a reserve for the injured Yao Ming . Four days later Love posted his 38th double-double in a row, breaking a Minnesota Timberwolves team record previously held by Kevin Garnett . On February 27, 2011 Love scored 37 points and got 23 rebounds against the Golden State Warriors . This was his fourth 30/20 game of the season and the highest number of games with these stats since Shaquille O'Neal recorded five such games in 1999/00. On March 7, 2011 he scored in a game against the Dallas Mavericks with 23 points and 17 rebounds his 51st double-double in a row, which he set the previous record of Moses Malone . On March 9, 2011 Love scored his 52nd double-double in a row, setting a new NBA record (since the merger of the NBA and the ABA ) for consecutive double-doubles. There were a total of 64 double doubles at the end of the season, making him the best NBA player in this statistic. Love was named Most Improved Player for his increase at the end of the 2010/11 season . He is the first player since 1983 to score more than 20 points and more than 15 rebounds per game. The last to succeed was Moses Malone.

In the 2011/12 season , his contract was extended by 4 years, with the 4th year being a player option. On March 24, 2012, he set Kevin Garnett's previous team record with 51 points. Love reached double-digit points and rebounds again this season, 48 double doubles, making him the best in the NBA, and was voted into the All-Star Team. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won the gold medal with the US selection.

Due to a serious hand injury, Love completed only 18 games for the Timberwolves in the 2012/13 season . In 2014 Love was appointed to the starting line-up of the Western Conference for the first time. Love had a very good season and was called up to the All-NBA Second Team at the end of the season . However, he again missed the playoff qualification with the Timberwolves.

Cleveland Cavaliers (since 2014)

In the summer of 2014, the Timberwolves transferred Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for the talents Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett . In the Cavaliers, he played alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving . After a good regular season with the Cavs, with an average of 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, Love injured his shoulder badly when he won the 4th game in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics . He was therefore out for the rest of the playoffs. Without him, the Cavaliers made it to the NBA final , but lost there against the Golden State Warriors .

In 2016 Love reached the NBA finals with the Cavaliers and won his first NBA championship alongside James and Irving.
