Tristan Trevor James Thompson (born March 13, 1991 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian basketball player of Jamaican origin. He has been under contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA since the 2011/12 season .

Career

After Thompson played for the Texas Longhorns basketball team for a year , he decided to sign up for the NBA draft . In the 2011 NBA draft , he was selected 4th by the Cleveland Cavaliers . Together with Kyrie Irving , who a few minutes earlier was elected at the first point of the Cavaliers, both were regarded as the hope of the franchise from Ohio .

In his debut season, Thompson scored 8.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team at the end of the season . In his sophomore year, Thompson started in all 82 games, scoring 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

In his fourth season, Thompson lost his place on the grid with the signing of All-Star Kevin Love and was henceforth off the bench. He still achieved 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds on average, as well as a career record of 54.7% hit rate from the field. In the same year Thompson reached the NBA final with the Cavaliers. Thompson benefited from Loves' injury and had an average of 9.6 points and 10.8 rebounds in 20 playoff games from 15 starts, a large part of reaching the NBA final. Nevertheless, one was subject to the Golden State Warriors .

In 2016, Thompson reached the NBA finals with the Cavaliers and won his first NBA championship alongside LeBron James . Also in 2017 and 2018 Thompson was in the squad when the Cavs reached the finals, but were defeated by the Warriors both times. With the departure of James in the summer of 2018 Thompson received more playing time in the neuaufbauenden Cavaliers, scoring in the season 2018-19 with 10.9 points and 10.2 rebounds for the first time a double-double average.

Private

Thompson was in a relationship with the American reality show participant Khloé Kardashian . In April 2018, the two parents became a daughter named True. They separated in February 2019.
