Andre Jamal Drummond (born August 10, 1993 in Mount Vernon , New York ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the US professional league NBA . Prior to that, he worked for the Detroit Pistons for eight years and was NBA All-Star twice during his time there .

Career

High school and college

Drummond first attracted attention at the FIBA ​​U17 World Championship 2010 in Hamburg . With the American selection he won the gold medal. He played for St. Thomas More High School in Oakdale , Connecticut for two years and dominated as one of the best center players in the country. He was ranked 1 and 2 on the ESPN and Rivals.com scout lists .

Drummond chose the local University of Connecticut . In his first and only year for the Huskies , Drummond scored 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game as a freshman .

Detroit Pistons (since 2012-2020)

Despite being seen as one of the best players of the year, Drummond was only selected 9th by the Detroit Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft . Nevertheless, he surprised many experts and closed his first year with 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. For this performance he was appointed to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team .

Drummond was invited to the Rising Star Challenge at the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend and completed the game for the Grant Hill team . He was subsequently elected MVP. In the 2013-14 season he was the second best rebounder in the league behind DeAndre Jordan with 13.2 rebounds per game . A year later he increased to 13.5 rebounds / game and was again second behind Jordan. In the first two weeks of the 2015-16 season , he was elected Eastern Conference Player of the Week. In the game against the Indiana Pacers he recorded 25 points and 29 rebounds, making him the first Piston since 1985 to manage 20 points and rebounds in two consecutive games. On December 18, 2015 he succeeded with 33 points and 21 rebounds, the first 30/20 game of a piston player since Dennis Rodman in 1990-91. Drummond equalized a negative record on January 20, 2016, when he missed 23 of 36 free throws, setting Wilt Chamberlain's record from 1967. The 36 free throw attempts were also a team record. At the end of the season, however, Drummond led the league with a career record of 14.8 rebounds per game. He was also invited to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time . He also qualified for the playoffs for the first time with the Pistons.

Drummond stayed with the Pistons for more years, where he was the starting center manager in Detroit. In 2018, Drummond received the second All-Star nomination of a career. He led the league in rebounds per game in 2018 and 2019. With the Pistons he only reached the playoffs again in 2019.

Cleveland Cavaliers (Since 2020)

After more than eight years with the Pistons, Drummond was transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2020, for Brandon Knight and John Henson .
