Bobby Simmons (born June 2, 1980 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a retired American basketball player who was active for most of his professional career in the NBA . Simmons won the 2005 NBA Most Improved Player Award for Most Improved Player of the Season.

Career

Simmons was selected in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics and subsequently traded to the Washington Wizards . He played with the Wizards for two years and left the bank in 2002 after he was transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers .

With the Clippers he got more playing time; he became a regular player and improved his stats to 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. At the end of the season, he was named the NBA Most Improved Player of the 2004/05 season .

In the following season, Simmons signed a lavish contract with the Milwaukee Bucks . In the first year he was initially a starter, but the following year Simmons was seriously injured and fell out of the entire 2006/07 season . After his recovery, he lost his starter role at the Bucks, as he could no longer build on the performances from the Clippers days.

Simmons was transferred to the New Jersey Nets in the summer of 2008, together with Yi Jianlian , for Richard Jefferson . In New Jersey, he developed into a good marksman, hitting 44.7% of his throws from the three-point line . After another year in New Jersey, he signed for the 2010/11 season with the San Antonio Spurs , where his contract was dissolved after two games.

In March 2011, Simmons signed with the Reno Bighorns in the D-League . A year later he was given the opportunity to play again with the Los Angeles Clippers and signed first two 10-day contracts, and then one contract until the end of the season. His last game as a professional basketball player was the Clippers playoff match against the San Antonio Spurs on May 20, 2012.
