Richard Allen Jefferson (born June 21, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American basketball player who was last active for the Denver Nuggets in the North American professional league NBA .
Career
After Jefferson played a few years for the University of Arizona basketball team , he was selected in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets in 13th place. However, he was transferred to the New Jersey Nets by swapping the draft pick . So he played his first season for the Nets. That year he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . In the 2001/02 and 2002/03 season he reached the NBA Finals with the Nets, but where they failed twice at the San Antonio Spurs.
In 2004 he won the bronze medal with the United States national team at the Olympic Games . The 2004/05 season got off to a promising start when, after the first 33 games, with an average of 22.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4 assists per game, he fell for the remaining 49 after a foul by Chauncey Billups Play in the regular season. Jefferson had his best season in the 2007-08 season when he scored 22.6 points per game. Nonetheless, he was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks on June 26, 2008 for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons .
After a year in Milwaukee, in which he scored 19.6 points per game, Jefferson was transferred to the San Antonio Spurs on June 23, 2009 for Fabricio Oberto , Kurt Thomas and Bruce Bowen . Jefferson was no longer the first or second attack option for the Spurs, but was still the starting small forward for the years to come.
On March 15, 2012 he was transferred to the Warriors for Stephen Jackson in Oakland. With the Warriors, Jefferson could no longer build on previous years. He closed the 2012/13 season with 3.1 points and 1.5 rebounds, which was his worst.
On July 10, 2013 Jefferson was transferred to the Utah Jazz together with Brandon Rush and Andris Biedrins . In the Jazz Jefferson got more playing time again and started in 78 of 82 games. He brought it to 10.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
On July 13, 2014, he signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks .
For the 2015/16 season he moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers . On June 19, 2016, he was able to secure the championship against the Warriors with the Cavaliers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Jefferson joined the Denver Nuggets on October 17, 2017. The 2017/18 season should have been his last season as a player in the NBA.
Shortly before the start of the 2018/19 season , Jefferson announced his retirement as an active basketball player; In July 2019, however, he revised this decision again.
