The NBA Summer League (also known as Las Vegas Summer League ) is a professional basketball league in the United States organized by the National Basketball Association (NBA). The competition has its origins in 2004 when a summer league was founded with six NBA teams, the games of which were played at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas . In 2005 the league expanded to 15 teams, in 2006 to 16 teams. From 2007, the Summer League was taken over by the NBA.

The league begins shortly after the NBA draft and is designed to help rookies or other players who have played in the NBA for three years or less gain experience and improve. The Summer League is seen as a stepping stone for players who were not selected in the draft or who have already played in Europe. The competition lasts about 10 days and was only held in Las Vegas until 2010. Until 2008, the Utah Jazz hosted the Rocky Mountain Revue in parallel with the Las Vegas Summer League. Due to the low number of participants, this was discontinued in 2009, but reactivated in 2015. The Orlando Summer League has been held in Orlando since 2010 .

The Summer League arenas in Las Vegas are the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion . In Orlando , the games will be played at the RDV Sportsplex . By 2010, 21 NBA teams took part with their junior players. Now the number of participating teams varies. Each team plays five games.
