The Thomas & Mack Center is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of Las Vegas in the state of Nevada . The hall is owned by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and stands on the campus of the University . It is named after business partners E. Parry Thomas and Jerome Mack, two bankers from Nevada who donated money for the construction.
history
On December 16, 1983, the multi-purpose hall was officially opened. Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and Diana Ross performed at the big gala . The first event took place before the inauguration on November 21, 1983. The UNLV Runnin 'Rebels basketball team competed against the Victoria Vikes of the University of Victoria . Mainly the arena is used by the UNLV Rebels. The multi-purpose hall offers a maximum of 19,522 seats for boxing and wrestling matches and from the playing field to the hall ceiling it is around 31.7 meters. Metal halide lamps with an illuminance of around 3,767 lux are used to illuminate the interior .
In 1999 the arena underwent extensive renovations both inside and out. 2008, Hall received a video cube with four widescreen - LED -Bildschirmen with electronic advertising and scoreboards and a new-Clock-conditioning. A new LED advertising banner has been attached all around the upper tier of the grandstand ; it replaced the system installed in 1995.
In addition to the UNLV Rebels, the Thomas & Mack Center was home to several sports teams from Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Thunder ice hockey team from the IHL was based in the hall from 1993 to 1998. The Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League (AFL) remained for four seasons (2003-2006 ). The Las Vegas Flash from Roller Hockey International (RHI, 1994), the Las Vegas Dustdevils from the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL, 1995) and the Las Vegas Sting (AFL, 1995) were located in the Thomas & Mack Center for only one year each . From the 2015 season, the Las Vegas Outlaws will play their AFL games in the hall.
In the mid-1980s, the hall served the Utah Jazz NBA team as an alternative venue for some games. 1984 broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the hall the former NBA overall points record of Wilt Chamberlain . The fourth play-off game of the Western Conference 1992 between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers (76: 102) was moved to Las Vegas due to unrest in Los Angeles . The reason for this was the acquittal of the four police officers who hit the African-American Rodney King on March 3, 1991 after a car chase and resistance to his arrest with batons over 50 times on the King, who was lying on the ground.
