This list provides an overview of the NBA players with the most points scored in their careers. The list includes all North American players with at least 16,000 points and all international players who have scored at least 12,000 points in the NBA. This list only takes into account points from regular season games . Games of the play-offs are not taken into account.

- Place : Ranking list place measured by the total number of points
- Name : Full name of the player.
- Nat. (Nationality) : The nationality of the player.
- Pos. (Position) : Position in the game that the player predominantly occupied (PG = Point Guard | SG = Shooting Guard | SF = Small Forward | PF = Power Forward | C = Center ) . Multiple answers are possible here.
- Team (playing times) : List of all NBA teams for which the player was active. The playing times are given in brackets.
- Hits from the field : Number of throws made during the current game. This includes two- and three-point throws, but not free throws. This column contains the number of throws hit, not the points received.
- Three-point throws : Number of three-point throws hit (introduced in the NBA 1979). A zero indicates that the player would have been able to score three-point throws.
- Free throws : number of free throws hit .
- Total points : sum of all points obtained from two- and three-point throws and free throws.
- ∅ Points per game : Average points scored per game. Calculated by the total number of points scored divided by all games played. Mathematical rounding to one decimal place takes place.
- Induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame : Year of acceptance into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player (no earlier than the fourth year after the end of the active career or after the death of the player).
