Reginald Wayne Miller (born August 24, 1965 in Riverside , California ) is a retired American basketball player who was active his entire professional career (1987-2005) with the Indiana Pacers in the NBA . Miller was All-Star five times with the Pacers .
The 2.01 meter tall shooting guard is considered one of the best long-range shooters in NBA history and is second on the list of players with the most converted three-point throws. In September 2012, Miller was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame .
Career
Miller was known for his strong nerves and his performance in crunch time , as well as for the ability to decide a game alone in critical situations.
Over the course of his 18-year career, he scored 25,279 points (18.2 points per game), making him the most successful scorer in the history of the Indiana Pacers (with a hit rate of 47.1 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from the triple and 88.8 percent from the free throw line). Miller held a career NBA record with 2,560 three-point throws until February 10, 2011, when he was trumped by Ray Allen .
Miller was elected an NBA All-Star five times and the All-NBA Third Team three times , and reached the NBA Finals with the Pacers in 2000 . In 2004 Miller received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for social engagement. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame just seven years after retiring.
After finishing his professional career, Miller began working as a sports commentator and has been commenting on basketball games for the US broadcaster TNT since 2005 . In 2006, Miller's jersey number 31 was withdrawn by the Pacers and is no longer awarded by the team.
Miller's sister Cheryl was also a very successful professional basketball player.
